George Devore Obituary

George E. Devore Jr., 80, of Lower Burrell, PA, passed away Jan. 15, 2025, at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, PA. He was born in New Kensington, PA, on Nov. 12, 1944, and was a lifelong resident of the area. George served in the Air Force and then worked as an auto mechanic for 45 years. He wasn't one to sit still, so he started a second career as a custodian in the Kiski Area School District. George enjoyed his time working in the school, seeing students and staff each day. He was a military social member of VFW Post 92, Lower Burrell. George was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed going to car shows, working on cars, and tinkering in his garage. He also enjoyed oldies music and attending dances at local bars and clubs. George filled his schedule by keeping up with his grandchildren's activities, including cross country and track meets, wrestling matches, and visits to Michigan to be with his family. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Richard) Lednak; and son, Geoffrey (Rachael) Devore; grandchildren, Richard (Sydney) Lednak, Stephanie (Brent) Kennedy, Jared Churchill, Trinity Devore, Alexis Devore, Emmalyn Devore, Graeme Devore, and Isla Devore; great-grandson, Grayson Kennedy; sister, Virginia Bauman; and former wife and close friend, Betsy Devore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, George E. Devore III, on Jan. 11, 2025; and siblings, Elizabeth Moore, Patricia Auen, and James Devore. Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 23, at THE RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 24, by Father Ken Zaccagnini. A private burial will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his name to the American Heart Association. www.heart.org or Tunnels to Towers Foundation www.t2t.org. www.RusiewiczFH.com

Our prayers go out to you Sharon, and your family. We spent time with your dad while visiting Amy at the Villages; very nice and pleasant man and a fellow USAF Vet. May he rest in peace.
