George Jaros Obituary

George J. Jaros, 90, of Cheswick, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at the Oakland Veterans Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born May 12, 1917, in Bergholz, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Caroline Greitzer Jaros, and had resided in Cheswick since 1951. He was employed as a glass cutter with PPG in Creighton, retiring in 1977, and was a member of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church in Springdale. During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the Army. Mr. Jaros was highly decorated with a Silver Star and several Purple Hearts. He was a life member of Springdale VFW. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and his family. Survivors include three sons, George (Joan) Jaros Jr., of Greene County, Stephen (Deborah) Jaros, of Shaler Township, and Joseph (Kathleen) Jaros, of West Deer Township; three daughters, Carolyn (Ray) Zak, of Greene County, Kathleen (Carl) McKown, of New Kensington, and Jeanne (Dale) Shemenski, of Harmar Township; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Steve Jaros, of Amsterdam, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marina Gallo Jaros; and a sister, Margaret Woods. Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St., Springdale, with Mass of Christian Burial following at 11 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Church with the Rev. George Saladna as celebrant. Burial will follow in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Township, with full military honors. Visit us at www.jarviefuneralhome.com.
