Gertrude H. Shaffer

Gertrude Hood Shaffer peacefully passed on Dec. 27, 2025, at 102 in Ligonier. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and deep commitment to the Methodist church community, where she shared not only her faith but also her warmth and compassion. Gertrude is survived by her loving son, Pastor Chuck (Sharon) Shaffer; daughters, Evelyn (Michael) Lesko and Nancy Crowe (Larry Kinsey); six grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; her dear sisters-in-law, Martha Hood and Carla Dee Sonson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She reunites in spirit with her beloved parents, Charles "Bucky" Hood and Sarah (Logan) Hood; her devoted husband of 57 years, William "Jack" Shaffer; and her siblings, Jean Hershey and Floyd Hood. Visitation for friends and family will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 30, 2025, at SNYDER-GREEN FUNERAL HOME in Ligonier. The following day, visitation will continue at Heritage Methodist Church starting at 10 a.m., culminating in a funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ron Geisler officiating. The family is truly appreciative of the compassion and care Gertrude received from the staff at the Gardens and the Concordia Hospice team. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gertrude's name can be made to the activity fund at Concordia at Bethlen-PC.
