James Crosby Obituary

James E. Crosby, Sr., 87, of Hecla, passed away on Sept. 15, 2024. Born on May 13, 1937, he lived a life full of passion and dedication to his family and interests. He proudly served in the US Army from 1959-1961. Prior to retirement, he worked as a laborer, then an inspector for the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County for 35 years. Jim had a deep love for horses and was a lifelong member of the Appalachian Wagon Train, the Tri-County Horse & Mule Association, and Wagoneers. He also held a lifetime membership with the Hecla Sportsmen's Club and Standard Shaft Club. Jim cherished the simple joys of life, working with his ponies, mowing grass, and sharing a few cold beers, and gambling with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 54 years, Glenda F. Crosby; granddaughter, Terri Lee; as well as eight brothers and two sisters. Jim is survived by his loving sons, James E. Crosby Jr. and his wife, Mary Beth, and Terry L. Crosby and his wife, Edith. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Rachael (Steve) Tylka, Jamie (Adam) Leonard, Mandy O'Leary, Shannan Simmers (Danny Couturiax), and Jenny Crosby. His legacy continues through his four great-grandchildren, Abigail (Lee) Wyland, Delilah and Derek O'Leary, and Cecelia Leonard; and one great-great-grandchild, Maria Wyland; and his two brothers, Bill and Harry Crosby. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday, at the HOFFER WILT FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mount Pleasant Road, Norvelt, PA 15674, where funeral services will be held on at 11 a.m., Thursday, by Rev. Dale Porterfield, burial to follow in Hillview Cemetery with military honors. The ponies at the Hecla VFD Fair. The (boys) cleaning up with the shovel. Many Boys and girls now in their 40s rode Jim's ponies. The younger generation would not even know what memories were made by Jim and his family. The Crosby family continued support for the Firemen was always appreciated and remembered by those of us that were their. The years of his presents on the wagon train is always spoken of fondly at the Barnhart family get togethers.

Jim was such a sweet guy with the best sense of humor, he always had such a big smile. I am going to miss him singing with me and making me laugh no matter what was going on. It was a pleasure getting to help with him and getting to meet him. I loved hearing stories of him on the wagon trail and of him with his horses. I am so sorry for ya'lls loss, he was such a great guy.

I remember the wagon train going past my house years ago. Then I got to meet Jim as a caregiver. He was a fun loving guy, always with a smile. So sorry for your loss Jimmy.
