Jane C. Weisel Hixson Santmyer, 79, of Ruffsdale, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, at Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, Pennsylvania, due to natural causes. Born on Dec. 9, 1944, in Mt. Pleasant, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Laura Mae Ross Weisel. Jane was a beloved wife to George A. Santmyer for 37 wonderful years, having married on June 22, 1987. Her role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, raising her children John C. Hixson, Jr. of Connellsville, Julie C. Alakson and her husband Ray of Mt. Pleasant, and Tiffany L. Santmyer Kelly and her husband Mark of McKees Rocks with unwavering love and commitment. Jane's joy was multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren, Mikaela and Thomas Hixson, Sydney Snyder, Aaron and Ella Alakson, Troy Hixson, Michael Bauer, and Robert Kelly, who brought immense happiness and laughter into her life. Jane was the sister of her twin, Jack L. Weisel, and his wife Connie of Scottdale, and she held a special place in her heart for her fur baby, a beagle terrier mix named Lefty. Her family circle was completed by her late son, Joseph C. Hixson Aug. 11, 2017, and her late sister, Eleanor J. Weisel Schmook, 2020. An alumna of East Huntingdon High School, Class of 1962, Jane's pursuit of excellence was evident early on. She was well-respected for her 30 years of dedicated service as a Clerk and Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, Scottdale. Her commitment to her community was further exemplified through her role as an honorary member of the Westmoreland County Four Wheel Drive Club and her active involvement in several classic car groups in the area, such as the Jeep 4 Wheel drive Club. Jane's spiritual commitment was unwavering, as evidenced by her 30 years as a faithful member and officer of Wesley Chapel Church. Her contributions to the church community were numerous and stemmed from a deep-seated belief in service and fellowship. To say Jane was loving, selfless, and spirited is to capture only a glimpse of the profound impact she had on those around her. Her ability to light up a room with her presence and to offer her strength and support to others was unparalleled. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever.
