Joseph W. Cashell

1931 - 2024

Joseph W. Cashell, 93, of Lower Burrell, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, at the Willows of Presbyterian Senior Care, Oakmont. He was born in New Kensington on July 3, 1931, to the late Joseph V. and Helen P. Rusek Cashell and had been a lifelong resident of the local area. He graduated from Ken Hi and went on to Duquesne University, where he received his degree in pharmacy. Mr. Cashell was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He began his career as a pharmacist at Silverman's Drug Store in New Kensington. Over the years, he worked at many local pharmacies, all while working as a chemist at the Alcoa Technical Center. He was a life member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He loved bowling together with his friends on the ALCOA bowling league for over 40 years. Joe cherished his time in his camps in Emporium and Warren, PA. He is survived by his three children, Cynthia L. (Gary) Lemon of Lower Burrell, Christopher J. (Leslie 'Cookie') Cashell of Saxonburg, and Carol Jo (Barth) Tamenne of Lower Burrell; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Katie (Chase) DeFelice, Steven Lemon, Marcus J. (Sarah) Cashell, Morgan L. (Michael) Jenkins, and Aaron and Laura Tamenne; great-grandsons Luke and Caleb Cashell, and Joseph Jenkins; brother, Regis Cashell of New Kensington; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Doris L. (Beighley) Cashell. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at THE RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder St., where Prayers of Transfer will be said Wednesday, at 9:30 a.m., followed by Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., in St. Joseph Church.
