Joseph J. Kapelewski

1924 - 2017

Joseph J. Kapelewski, 93, of New Kensington, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, in Seneca Manor, Penn Hills. He was born on Jan. 2, 1924, in Pittsburgh, to the late Alex A. and Alexandra Strenkowski Kapelewski, and was a lifelong resident of the local area. Mr. Kapelewski was an Army veteran of World War II, and worked as a pipe fitter for the New Kensington Water Authority. He had also worked in construction. He was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington, and enjoyed working and watching sports, especially the Pirates and Steelers. He is survived by his three children, Joseph (Cynthia) Kapelewski Jr., of Galveston, Texas, Cathleen (Dan) Felack, of New Kensington, and Francis (Kelly) Kapelewski, of Lower Burrell; four grandchildren, Phillip (Shanna) Kapelewski, Daniel Felack, Talor and Conner Kapelewski; and great-grandchild, Rohan Kapelewski. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia C. Knapp Kapelewski; two brothers, Benjamin (Kapelewski) Kaylor and Andrew A. Kapelewski; and two sisters, Wanda Strenkowski and Molly Papaila. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Bridges Hospice and Seneca Manor for the exceptional care given to Mr. Kapelewski.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road, where prayers of transfer will be said at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by Christian funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Mary Church, New Kensington. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Lower Burrell.
