Joseph P. Wislie Jr., 97, a lifelong resident of Creighton, East Deer Township, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. He was born July 24, 1917, in Creighton, son of the late Joseph P. Wislie Sr. and Rosie (Bodnar) Wislie. Joe worked at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co., Creighton, for 17 years, and as a craneman at Pullman-Standard, Butler, for 17 years, retiring in 1982. He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran who served in the Pacific Theater. His major duty was the skipper of an emergency rescue boat. He was a sergeant and was awarded a Rescue Star on the bow of his boat, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Creighton, Brackenridge American Legion Post 226, and the William Penn Hungarian Branch 296, Springdale. Joe was an avid outdoorsman who liked to hunt and fish at his Hunting Camp Compound 28 Westline in McKean County with his sons, grandsons, close relatives, and friends. He had much joy spending time with his beloved wife, Mickey, devoted children, grandchildren, family, and friends. His niece, Mary Dee Herstek, and his nephews, Tony Taliani and Louis Wislie, and a special boy in his life, Logan Lindenmuth, were also very close to him. He will be sadly and greatly missed by all. Survivors include a daughter, Angela RW Misera, of Creighton; sons, Gary J. (Janee) Wislie, of Natrona Heights, and Robert A. (JoAnne) Wislie, of Natrona Heights; grandsons, Justin Misera, of Cheswick, and Jonathan (Becky) Wislie, of Bridgeville; granddaughters, Megan (John) Lowry, of Lower Burrell, Lindsey Wislie, of Natrona Heights, Allison Wislie, of Morgantown, W.Va., and Julie Wislie, of Pittsburgh; a great-granddaughter, Maria Grace Lowry; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and abundant special friends. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Angelina (Taliani) Wislie; his wife, Madeline "Mickey" (Santucci) Wislie, of 60 years, who passed away Oct. 1, 2007; two brothers, Louis Wislie and Paul Wislie; two sisters, Mary Wesolowski and Julia Dolansky; and his beloved in-laws, Alexandro "Alex" and Leona (Taliani) Santucci. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in the PAUL R. AJAK FUNERAL HOME INC., 921 Freeport Road, Creighton, where parting prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 787 Freeport Road, Creighton, with the Rev. Aaron J. Kriss and the Rev. Miroslaw Stelmaszczyk concelebrating. Burial with military honors will follow in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's name may be made to the East Deer Volunteer Hose Company and Ambulance Service, 927 Freeport Road, Creighton, PA 15030.
