Katherine Davis Obituary

Katherine Davis, 89, of New Kensington, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017. "Mom" means a lot of things, and for her, it meant family, love and caring. Katherine possessed all of those qualities, and they were based on a never-ending kindness. A small woman by stature, she was a dynamo in real life. As a young mother, she embraced her three children, as well as their friends, with open arms. For her husband, Ervin, she was the true strength of the relationship. Katherine was always there for friends and family, and as her children grew into adulthood she relished the role of grandmother. If you asked what made her life happy, it was two words, "living life", which she did to the fullest. Her church, St George, was a mainstay throughout her life. She loved being in the center of activity for her friends and family, as well as coordinating and planning events, and was an active member of the Myrrh Bearing Society there. Katherine didn't believe in luck, but did believe in creating opportunities for those close to her. Katherine was happily married for more than 60 years, and was happy being the wife and mother of the family she adored. In the last few years of her life, she experienced joy in doing things that she hadn't had the chance to do before. She loved to travel. She always loved fashion and, in the later stages of her life, would spend time adding to her wardrobe, which always made her happy. Katherine fought off cancer and other afflictions in her later years, and valued every day as a new opportunity. She will always be remembered as "Sito" to those who loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Albert George; and her beloved husband, Ervin Thomas Davis. She leaves behind three children, Thomas, Laura and Linda; Thomas' fiancée, Lisa Rodgers; his two sons, Sean and Bryan; Laura Norton, and partner, Steven Quade; Laura's daughter, Ashley, and son-in-law, Wesley Brown; and their three children, Scarlett, Tripton, and Pierce. She also leaves behind her brother, George George; and her loving sister, Regina Thomas; and nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, in St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 1150 Leishman Ave., New Kensington, where a trisagion service will be held at 8:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with her pastor, the Rev. Meletios Zafaran, officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park. ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD. of New Kensington was entrusted with the arrangements.
Donations in her memory can be made to St. George Orthodox Christian Church, 1150 Leishman Ave., New Kensington, 15068.

I met Katherine at a memoir group at the Springdale Library a few years back. She and her sister were so kind and I enjoyed hearing about their lives and background. My condolences to her family, she was a sweet woman and I still remember some of her stories.

I was the first one to try to rescue Katherine from the auto accident. I thought of her loved ones at that very moment and prayed that she would survive. May she rest in peace with God.
