Kenneth H. "Ken" Munson Jr., 58, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully Dec. 19, 2025, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on Jan. 9, 1967, in Pittsburgh, son of Kenneth H. Sr. and Lois (Pierro) Munson. As a proud Navy veteran, devoted husband and father, cherished son, and trusted mentor, Ken was deeply respected by colleagues and loved by friends. Throughout his life, Ken approached every challenge with thoughtfulness, humility, and a strong sense of purpose. Ken was a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University in Electrical Engineering, where he was a member of Penn State ROTC. Ken later went on to earn a master's degree in operations research from the Naval Postgraduate School as well as an MBA from Texas Christian University. After 10 years as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy, Ken transitioned into the private sector, working as a PreSales Consultant for i2, a Military Operations Analyst for Lockheed Martin, a Senior Management Systems Analyst at the RAND Corporation, and the Director of Program Management at Nokomis. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Michelle R. (Smith) Munson; his two sons, Nicholas Reed (Yang Yue) Munson and Christopher Troy Munson; a sister, Victoria (Mark) Roessler; his nephew, Trevor Roessler; and his niece, Kara Roessler. Visitation for Ken will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, at HART FUNERAL HOME INC., Murrysville. Parting prayers will be held at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, followed by a Funeral Mass at Mother of Sorrows Church in Murrysville at 10 a.m. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy at the church at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to research at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
