Margaret A. Gardetto

1931 - 2021

Margaret A. (Smietana) Gardetto, 90, of Vandergrift, passed away peacefully in her home Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Born Aug. 9, 1931, in Hyde Park, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Helen (Ballow) Smietana. Margaret was a wonderful homemaker, caring for her family and her community. She was a longtime member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church and its Rosary Society, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She particularly loved being with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Her deep love for family was felt through every visit. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Gardetto, in January of 2020; sisters-in-law, Louise and Shirley; brothers-in-law, Dominic and Joseph (wife Rose); sister, Rosemarie (surviving Jim); brothers, Joseph (wife Dorothy), "Stush" (surviving wife Pat) and Walter (surviving wife Patsy); and an infant sister. Margaret is survived by her children: daughter, Leona (Steve) Matusiak, of Woodbridge, Va.; sons, Charles (Nancy) Gardetto, of Adamstown, Md., and Anthony (Susan) Gardetto, of Center Valley; grandchildren, Jason, Michelle, John, Lauren, Nicholas, Andy and Phillip; great-grandchildren, Noel and Joseph, Clark and soon-to-arrive Caroline; also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, in the BRADY-CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 429 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Additional viewing will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, from 10 a.m. until parting prayers of transfer at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, 303 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, with Father James Loew, OSB, as celebrant. Entombment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery Mausoleum, Vandergrift.
