Marlene Kurn Obituary

Marlene R. (DiSanti) Kurn, 71, of Sarver, passed away Monday, Aug. 16, 2021, due to complications of covid-19, at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights. Marlene was born July 21, 1950, in New Kensington, a daughter of the late Elizabeth A. (Rosati) and Richard V. DiSanti. She was a 1968 graduate of Springdale High School and also a graduate of the Franco Beauty Academy. She was of the Roman Catholic faith. Marlene worked at the Giant Eagle corporate office in RIDC Park. She was a supervisor in the gift card department for 25 years, retiring in 2015. Marlene enjoyed reading, going to the casino, watching her detective shows and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. There was rarely a day that at least one grandchild wasn't at her home, if not several of them. Marlene is survived by her husband of 53 years, Denny L. Kurn, who cared for her every need during some health battles; sons, Timothy R. (Natalie) Kurn, of Valencia, and Brian S. Kurn, of Freeport; her daughter, Chalyse A. (Scott) Danka, of Sarver; her beloved grandchildren, who adored her, as she was their "Nonna," Elizabeth (Briar) Barry, Micaela (Mike) Kurn, Jenae Kurn, Dominic Kurn, Lucia and Isabetta Danka, and her youngest, Callie; and stepgrandsons, Zack and Vince Abel. Nonna was so important to all of her family and was a North Star for all of them as they looked to her for guidance, compassion, support or a boot in the rear if needed. She is also survived by brothers, Victor R. DiSanti and Dr. Richard W. (Elizabeth) DiSanti; sister, Judith R. Josephs; and a brother-in-law, Randy Kurn. She had many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were an important part of her family. Her family was her life and she was very protective of all of them. She will be greatly missed by her entire family. "Ti Amo, Nonna!" Marlene was preceded in death by her siblings, Frances "Sis" Maciak and Joseph R. DiSanti. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St. in Freeport. The family has asked that all unvaccinated friends please wear a mask to the visitation and funeral Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at St. Mary, Mother of God Church, 608 High St. in Freeport, with the Rev. Edward Volz, OSP, officiating. Burial will be held in Deer Creek Cemetery, Cheswick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AHN Cancer Institute, 1301 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights, PA 15065.
