Matthew S. Sobecki

Matthew S. Sobecki, 64, of New Kensington, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023, in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Oct. 14, 1958, in New Kensington, to the late Joseph and Jennie (Simon) Sobecki. He was the loving husband of Kathy Sobecki, of New Kensington, for 36 years. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Mark Sobecki. Matthew was a member of Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. He was currently one of the assistant chiefs of the New Kensington Fire Department, a member of New Kensington Fire Company No. 1 for 46 years and a line officer for more than 40 years. He was also in charge of the fire prevention program within our city. Matt passed down his love for public service to his daughter. He loved his wife, daughters and dogs with all his heart. Surviving him are his loving wife, Kathy A. (Manga) Sobecki, of New Kensington; two daughters, Krista (Zachery) Koontz Esq., of Oakmont, and Kelsey Sobecki, of Pittsburgh; a sister, Pamela (Lou) Naviglia, of New Kensington; and a brother-in-law, Jay (Jayne) Manga, of Lower Burrell. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the GIUNTA-BERTUCCI FUNERAL HOME INC., 1509 Fifth Ave., Arnold, John Paul Bertucci, owner/supervisor. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. Everyone please go directly to the church. Burial will be private.
