Piera Kost Obituary

Piera Kost, 62, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at home in Leesburg, Fla. Piera was born May 17, 1950, in Saluzzo, Italy, to Richard and Gina Prato, and came to the United States with her mother at the age of 3. A lifelong resident of Cheswick, Piera along with her husband, John, recently retired to the sunshine of Florida. Piera graduated from Allegheny College, Meadville, and recently retired from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health as the clinic coordinator of the Health Studies Research Center. Her loving and caring nature made her a joy to her family as well as to her coworkers. Piera enjoyed time with her family, cooking, reading, gardening, golf and travel. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard; her infant brother, Elio Arthur; and an uncle, Arturo Prato. She is survived by her mother, Gina Prato, of Cheswick; her husband, John Kost, of Leesburg, Fla.; a son, John and his wife, Deana (Gartland) Kost, of Cheswick; a daughter, Cristina Pritchard and her husband, Michael, of Burke, Va.; five grandchildren, Brianna, Andrew John, Brendan, Kyra and Mackenzie; and a sister, Gina DiSanti and her husband, David, of Oakmont. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Riverside Community Church, 401 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. In lieu of flowers or donations, Piera asked that people remember her by doing a random act of kindness for others.
