Robert Wayne "Bob" McGorty Sr., 72, of Arnold, formerly of Hyannis, Mass., died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, in Concordia Monroeville. Born March 6, 1942, in Marlboro, Mass., he was a son of the late John McGorty and Eva (Fortin) McGorty White; and is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline C. (Lamb) McGorty, of Arnold. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J. Richard McGorty; a sister, Eliose Wager; and his stepfather, Jack White. Bob graduated from Marian High School, in Framingham, Mass., in 1960, and was a member of the inaugural class of the school. He joined the Army National Guard in 1960 and served until 1966, where he attained the rank of sergeant. During this time he joined the Hudson, Mass., Fire Department as a call firefighter. He moved to Cape Cod, Mass., in 1969 and was appointed permanent firefighter of the Hyannis Fire Department in 1971. He was a Charter Member of the IAFF Local 2172. He retired after 36 years of service. He was a life member of the Hyannis Elks No. 1549. He enjoyed serving his community, watching the Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He was a great man, dedicated to his family; he loved his wife, children and grandchildren like no other. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert W. (Kim) McGorty II, of Taunton, Mass., and Timothy McGorty, of Arnold; a daughter, Caryn Davidson, of Arnold; three sisters, Marilyn Boudreau, of Colorado, Carol (Roy) Dudley, of Hudson, Mass., and Maureen (Landry) Carey, of Marlboro; eight grandchildren, Staci (Chris Manchuk) McGorty Kendrick and Stephani McGorty Kendrick, Jennifer Volk, Christopher Davidson, Ryan, Camden, Meaghan and Dyllan McGorty; two great-grandchildren, Cassadi and Tyler Manchuk; and also survived by many nieces and nephews.
