Shirley A. Geary

1933 - 2024

Shirley Anne (Stevenson) Geary, age 91, of Champion, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at Frick Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. She was born on May 26, 1933, in Newell, a daughter of the late Valeria (McAfee) Stevenson Oglethorpe, and her beloved stepfather, the late Robert Oglethorpe. Shirley was a 1952 graduate of Dunbar Township High School, and a 1955 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her registered nursing degree. She later became an OB/GYN nurse practitioner, starting her career at Connellsville Hospital, and then working at Jeannette Hospital. Shirley worked alongside her friend, Dr. Yuwaree Promubol, until her retirement, aiding in the delivery of many babies throughout her career. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Addis. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William Zane Geary; her children, Debra (Geary) May and Scott of Wake Forest, NC, and Valerie (Geary) Ferrell and her husband Pat of Ruffs Dale; and her grandchildren, Adleigh (May) Karl and her husband David of Raleigh, NC, Zane Ferrell and his wife Lacey of Mt. Pleasant, and Zoie (Ferrell) Manns and her husband Alex of Morgantown, WV. She was also the great-grandmother of Josephine Anne Karl, who she adored. Additionally, she is survived by her bonus daughter, Linda (Brown) Glotfelty and her husband Barry of Acme. Shirley is also survived by her sisters, Margaret (Stevenson) Coughenour of Scottdale, and Nora Rae (Oglethorpe) Coligan of Houston, TX; as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, Aug. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the hour of a Funeral Service, in the MARK C. BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., at the corner of Route 711 and 146, Municipal Building Road, Melcroft (724-455-2310), with her friend, Pastor Bill Baird officiating.
