Thomas R. Hurley Jr.

Thomas R. Hurley Jr., of Brackenridge, passed peacefully Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, after a long, courageous cancer battle. He was a graduate of Har-Brack High School and Carnegie Tech Institute (now Carnegie Mellon) where he majored in mathematics. He was a computer programming troubleshooter for U.S. Steel Corp. for 31 years before retiring. A generous introvert, Tom was quite the philanthropist, supporting numerous charities, especially Plan International U.S.A., sponsoring several foster children, Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity and animal rescues. Tom loved all sports, was an avid fan of the Steelers, college football, especially Notre Dame, the Pirates, Penguins and the P.G.A. He loved discussing all with his brothers and nephews. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of his work golf league. Tom enjoyed Sunday dinners with family, holiday get-togethers and visits with his grandnephews, Jonas, Kylan and Trent Meiers. He is survived by brothers, Terry (Carol) Hurley, of Louisville, Ky., and Dan (Ruthie) Hurley, of Baden. He was the beloved uncle of Kristie (Jason) Meiers, of Cranberry Township, Kevin (Kaye), Mick (Amanda), and Scott (Amy) Hurley, of Louisville, Ky., and "betting buddy" Shawn Hurley, of Pittsburgh. He's also survived by numerous cousins, grandnieces and -nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Marge Hurley; and brother, Michael (Mickey) Hurley.
