Thomas Rihn Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Rihn passed away peacefully on Oct. 24, 2025, surrounded by the family he so deeply loved. Born to Gerald and Margaret Rihn, Tom lived a full, joyful, and purpose-driven life. For over 50 years, Tom was the devoted husband to Karen Rihn. Grounded in the three pillars of faith, family, and humility, Tom and Karen built a beautiful partnership and life together. Always making time for laughter and love, they warmly welcomed all into their home, often with a home-cooked meal or glass of wine. Together, their unwavering love and generosity created a family full of countless cherished memories. Tom was the proud and loving father of Dr. Chris (Susan) Rihn, Dr. Jeff (Dr. Theresa) Rihn, Andy (Megan) Rihn, and Graham (Sarah) Rihn. Known affectionately as Papa, Tom delighted in his growing family and treasured every moment with his grandchildren: Ben, Maria, Maggie, Hunter, Charlie, Zoe, Emily, Ellie, Ish, Ollie, Charlotte, Claire, and Josie. Always there with words of encouragement, a joke, or a whistle from the sidelines, Papa could put a smile on your face! His grandchildren were his greatest joy, and he made each one feel uniquely seen, loved, and celebrated. Tom was the beloved brother of Jerry Rihn and was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Rich; and his sister, Donna. Those blessed to know Tom will remember the beautiful simplicity with which he approached life guided always by faith, family, and friendship. He strived for excellence in everything he did, but never at the expense of what mattered most. With that humility and balance, Tom defined his success by a life filled with joy, love, laughter, and grace. In his professional life as a clinical pharmacist, Tom helped bring the delivery of pharmacy care at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh into the modern era. He also served as a professor and administrator in the School of Pharmacy at Duquesne University, where he inspired generations of students through his dedication, wisdom, and kindness. The most fulfilling aspect of his 40+ year career was the relationships he created at Mercy, Duquesne, and University Pharmacotherapy Associates. In 2012, he retired to spend more time with family and friends the true center of his world. There will be a visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, at KING FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park. A funeral Mass celebrating Tom will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, at St. Mary's Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. The Rihn family takes comfort in knowing that Tom is with God, watching over his family and friends with the same love and pride that guided his every day on earth. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish or The Food Bank at Holy Trinity Parish in Ligonier. Dr. Chris Rihn & family, I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. I didn't know your beloved father, but I did get a glimpse of what he was like when I read his book. I was so glad that I did. I hope you all can find comfort in your faith. God bless. Rest in peace, Mr. Rihn.
