Virginia Namey Obituary

Virginia "Betty" (Shaheen) Namey, 82, of Lower Burrell, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, while surrounded by her family. She was born June 20, 1925, in Portage, a daughter of the late Elias Shaheen and Debe Tamer. She lived in the Lower Burrell area all her life, where she and her husband, the late Mike "Ben" Namey owned and operated Ben's Tours and the former Frontier Motel. She was a member of St. George Orthodox Church, New Kensington, and the Myrrh Bearing Society of the church. Virginia enjoyed cooking Syrian food for her family and traveling to Atlantic City, N.J. Survivors include three sons, Thomas (Wendy) Namey, of Norman, Okla., Charles Namey, of New Kensington, Michael (Jan) Namey, of Calabash, N.C.; a daughter, Robin Namey, of New Kensington; a brother, George (Lorraine) Shaheen, of Lower Burrell; grandchildren, John (Wendi) Namey, Mickey (Amy) Namey, Tom (Christine) Namey, Kristen Namey and Laura (Troy) Nelson; and great-grandchildren, Miranda, Sidney and Isabella Namey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mike "Ben" Namey, in 2003; brothers, John, Abe and Ron Shaheen; sisters, Susan Alberts, Martha Jacobs, Margaret Tannas, Helen Hughes, Emily Joseph and Rose Neasi. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the JOHN F. KRUPA FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington. Trisagion prayers will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, followed by services at 11:30 a.m. in St. George Orthodox Church, New Kensington, by the Rev. Joel Gillam. Burial will be Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. A Trisagion service will also held at 3 p.m. Monday in funeral home. Contributions may be made to the St. George Orthodox Church Building Fund, 1150 Leishman Ave., New Kensington, PA 15068.
