Walter Schultz Obituary

Walter E. "Buzz" Schultz, 88, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014. Born Sept. 29, 1926, in New Kensington, to the late Walter E. Sr. and Zula Rupert Schultz, he was a World War II veteran, having served with the Army, and recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Mr. Schultz was a spring tester at the former Union Spring Manufacturing Co. of New Kensington for 35 years, retiring when the company closed around 1980. Buzz was a member of Trinity United Christian Church and the American Legion, both of Lower Burrell, and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. He enjoyed watching the Pirates, Steelers and especially the Penguins. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing their sports. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing in Canada and bowling and playing softball for the church. He is survived by his daughter, Gretchen L. (Ed) Lacinski, of New Kensington; three grandchildren, David E. (Kara) Lacinski, of Buffalo Township, Steven D. (Marisa) Lacinski, of Hinkley, Ohio, and Amy M. (Eric) Griswold, of Altoona; his great-grandchildren, Ethan, Isaac, Mason and Ava Lacinski, and Charlie and Eli Griswold; and his siblings, Geraldine "Gerry" Spiering, of Sarver, Fred Schultz, of New Kensington, Bob (Donna) Schultz, of Lower Burrell, and Carol (George) Schneider, of Washington Township. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Wiedl) Schultz, July 19, 2004; a son in infancy, David Allen Schultz; and siblings, Margie Moore, Betty Schmidt and Martha Boyer. Viewing will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, in the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Cletus L. Hull III, officiating. Burial with military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. To leave an online condolence, visit http://www.rossgwalker.com.
