ANNETTE WEYERHAEUSER Obituary

Annette B. Weyerhaeuser Annette Weyerhaeuser, a dedicated Christian, died peacefully on September 16, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 26, 1914 in Seattle, Washington to Joseph C. and Jane C. Black. She attended St. Nicholas School in Seattle and graduated, Phi Beta Kappa, from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. The summer before her senior year in college, Annette met her husband, Dave, a young Yale graduate from St. Paul, Minnesota, who had come west to work in the forest products industry. They married in 1937. Throughout her life Annette was involved in community leadership in the Tacoma areas. She served as a board member of the Tacoma Art Museum, Forest and Stewardship Foundations, Tacoma Girl's Club and Annie Wright School. Additional community involvement and membership included Aloha Club, Sunset Club of Seattle, Children's Home of Tacoma, Skyline Presbyterian Church and Tacoma Community College where she was the recipient of an honorary degree. She was also a founding member of the City Club of Tacoma. Annette spent many years leading small group Bible studies and she enjoyed giving the Children's Message at Skyline Presbyterian Church. She also worked for thirty years as a mental health counselor. A naturally loving, gifted listener, she was able to put everyone she met at ease. Those who were fortunate enough to know or work with her felt the sincerity and depth of her care and love. Family, friends and patients would agree that exposure to her love enriched and changed their lives. Annette was always interested in social issues as well as education and the arts. Much of her charitable giving went toward educating young people and supporting Christian organizations throughout the U.S. and around the world. She had a deep appreciation for the arts and supported all forms: visual, music and theatre. Annette enjoyed horseback riding for most of her life and spent a great deal of time riding in the beautiful desert mountains surrounding Palm Springs, California. In her early sixties she started taking ballroom dance lessons and before long was entering competitions and bringing home trophies. She enjoyed traveling and visited Europe, Asia and South America, which gave her a great appreciation and understanding for the diversity of the many different cultures around the world. It was usual for Annette to take long walks, up to five or six miles a day, into her early nineties, mostly for her own health, but also to exercise her beloved dogs. Annette was predeceased by her husband of sixty-two years, C. Davis (Dave) Weyerhaeuser. She is survived by her children: daughter Jane McFee, son Bill (Gail) Weyerhaeuser and daughter Terri (Alfons) Emge; grandchildren: Kate, Lee, Drew, Ben, Jeff (Tegan), Andrea (Adam), Whitney and Rebecca, great granddaughter Olivia and her closest friend Jean Flora. We wish to acknowledge and thank Annette's loving caregivers: Dianne Frothingham, Kathy Gonzales, Alicia Ignacio, Mary Muthemba, Megan Buselmeier, Valandrea Jones, Multicare Hospice nurse Tina Lewis, and others who cared for her over the years including Naomi Montgomery and Jane Oberg. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church, 7700 Skansie Ave., Gig Harbor, WA 98335 on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. Memorial gifts in honor of Annette can be made to: Skyline Presbyterian Church, 6301 Westgate Blvd., Tacoma, WA 98406 or The Tacoma Art Museum, 1701 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98402. I´m so grateful to have known Annette and Dave. I was one of her instructors at Fred Astaire, in the 80´s. I had the pleasure of competing with her in Vegas and Miami Beach.

I was a teenager when Dave and Annette first came to Skyline Presbyterian Church. I remember their humble, gracious service to the church and to all people. They were particularly helpful to Rev. Jacobson's wife when the pastor died suddenly leaving two small children. Dave and Annette certainly set an example for all of us to help others and leave the world a better place to live. Lives well lived.

To Annette's family: our prayers, love and sympathy go out to all of you.
Annette was one of the most wonderful women I have ever known (and that has been for the past 70 years!). She has been like a second mother to me in so many ways. Her unconditional love, prayers, Godly example and wisdom, generosity and true interest and caring, (not only for me but also my children) has been irreplaceable in my life. I can't begin to count the many ways she has always been there for me! I am so glad that she and Dave were close friends with my parents. Because of that I got to know both them and their children (to whom I often told made-up stories!). What true Christ-likeness she exemplified. I will always keep fond memories of her in my heart, and look forward to being together again in eternity some day.

Bill and Gail,
I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I have precious memories of both of your parents. Annette was such a gracious, lovely lady who cared so much for everyone. I still have the gifts she gave me when I worked at FCI so long ago. Both of your parents were committed Christians and an example for all. I know how much you will miss her, she is safely with CD in a wonderful new home with the Lord. Shirley and Jon Schmick

I'm so sad to hear of Annette's passing. I was a young professional when I worked at Tacoma Art Museum. She came to all the events and of course gave a generous gift to name the largest gallery in our new building. Her classiness and quiet dedication to philanthropy made quite an impression on me. All my best to the family.

Bill and Gail, Tom and i were saddened to read of your mother's passing. What a wonderful lady she was. I knew your father better, having worked in FCI offices for so many years. Tom and I remember running into them in downtown London and they were so surprised to see us. We know she is with our Lord now and Dave too. Hugs to your both. Elaine Taylor, Federal Way

It was my privilege to meet with Annette several times over the past years as her interest in the ministries of The Firs in Bellingham remained strong. She was one of the classiest, intuitive and caring ladies I have ever met. The fact that she loved God was evident in all that she said. Her passing has left a space that will be difficult to fill.

Bill and Gail, so sorry for your loss. Annette was an incredible gem and I am honored to have been a small part of her philanthropic life. She taught me much through example and an incredible grace full of laughter and love. Bits of our conversations still permeate my thoughts and influence my life. In fact, she told me how much Gail's nightly calls meant to her and this caused me to begin my regular calls to my mother. It started out as something to do for my mother, but the calls have become just as important to me. You both are in my thoughts and prayers.

That wondeful Harvest Moon outside has filled the desert with the golden light that must be in honor of your return to Gods home and back into the arms of Dave. The whole world is filled with this golden light as if billions of candles are lit in your honor. GOD BLESS YOU, your are one of God's finest works.

OMG ... What a sad day to see this in my email box. My prayers go out to you all, her family and friends. Annette was one of the kindest women I had the honor to meet. Heaven must be rejoicing to have such a wonderful angel now in their presence. This world though will never be the same.
I met her so many years ago (1992) in Palm Springs, she knew me as a no one, yet showed me kindness and love. She carried herself with a kind of class that one must be born with, treating all with dignity and respect. Such a sad day. I feel though that Dave has been long awaiting her return back into his arms and now .. they walk once again together, as they will surely be watching over their family.
All my love to you all, I wish there were something that I could say that would somehow help?
May God bless all of you and just know how blessed you were to have her as your mother.

I have many fond memories of Annette. We served together for some years on the Tacoma Art Museum Board. She had a very wry sense of humor. I recall her visiting Janis and I when we first moved into our home in Palm Springs...she inquired if it felt like home yet. My response was the kids are arriving this afternoon, our housekeeper baked an apple pie and there is a ham in the oven, so yes. She replied with a smile on her face..."your Jewish, your not supposed to eat ham, well, I guess if you don't cook it yourself it's okay". She will be missed by all who knew her. Our deepest sympathies to all her children.

Annette was a genuine person. She lived her life with grace and purpose. I knew her socially, but I can only imagine how much she will be missed by her family and close friends. How fortunate that her life was long. She left her footprints in the sand of many lives.
