BERTHA FLATELAND Obituary

Bertha Elizabeth Flateland Our beloved mother passed away July 9, 2015. She was born in Mandan, ND on May 10, 1922. She met her husband to be Donald, and they relocated to Tacoma, WA. During WW2 she was employed as a welder at Todd shipyard, while her husband was deployed overseas in the Army Air Corps. Bertha was also employed by Pacific Northwest Bell, as one of the first female supervisors to oversee a crew of installers. She and Donald retired from the phone company after 25 and 35 years respectively. She was preceded in death by her parents Emma and Albert Heinz, husband Donald, sister Margret (Harry) Dickman, and brother Al Heinz. She is survived by her sons James and Robert, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Bertha was a devout Catholic and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Bob and Jim, sorry to hear about your mom's passing. She didn't like me much, back in the day,(probably warranted) but I know she meant a lot to the two of you.It's always hard to lose a parent.

Bert was a great friend of mine as we both were outside foreman at the same time. She was a wonderful person and will be missed.
