Vancover, Washington - Darrell and Verle Congdon passed away 24 hours apart on October 9 and 10, 2021 in Vancouver WA, where they had resided for only two months. Darrell was born in 1925 in Spokane, WA and was raised in Sandpoint, Idaho. He earned the Eagle Scout honor in high school. Upon graduating from high school, Darrell was drafted into World War II and served with the United States Navy in the Pacific until the end of the war. He took advantage of the G.I. Bill and completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from the University of Idaho. He enjoyed a long career with Weyerhauser and retired after working there for over 30 years. This is where he met the love of his life, Verle Larson. They had two daughters and spent their life in University Place. Darrell was a lifetime Elks member and belonged to the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He loved reading and watching sports.
Verle was born in Tacoma in 1927 and lived her entire life there. She was the youngest of six children and enjoyed years of close relationships with her brothers and sisters. Verle graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Business. She worked at Weyerhauser for several years until she got married. Verle later spent 15 years working for the University Place school district as a reading specialist. Verle was a member of the Daughters of Norway and was a Leikarring dancer. She was an excellent cook and loved entertaining.
Darrell and Verle enjoyed spending time with their siblings, daughters and grandchildren. They traveled extensively in retirement with family and friends. They beat the odds and avoided Covid to live longer than most and were very fortunate to have been surrounded by wonderful friends. Darrell and Verle are survived by their daughters, Greer Ragsac (San Jose, CA), Britt Becker (Vancouver, WA), four grandchildren, Audrey Ragsac, Adrian Ragsac, Lexi Becker and Richard Becker III, one great-grandchild on the way, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. The family suggests donations be made to the Tacoma Rescue Mission. Arrangements are in the care of Neptune Society.
