David Sherman Obituary

David N. Sherman
July 2, 1954 - September 1, 2022
Orting, Washington - David N. Sherman, a devoted father and grandfather, died suddenly and unexpectedly on the Orting trail in Orting, Washington on Thursday, September 1, 2022. He was 68 years old.
Dave is survived by his wife Charlea and their two children, Mikal Austin (Rachel Austin) and Kyle Sherman (Ashley Mataya and her two daughters Alisa and Zoey); and his one grandchild, Levi Austin. He is also survived by his sister Ginger Weaver (John Weaver) and niece, Hannah Weaver. He was preceded
in death by his father Leonard Sherman and his mother Marion Kyle Sherman.
Dave was born on July 2, 1954 in Seattle, Washington. He grew up in Maple Valley, Washington and graduated from Tahoma High School. He attended Washington State University (WSU) and graduated with a Civil Engineering degree, obtaining his professional engineer license in 1980. Dave worked for
Hanford after graduation and after some time he moved to Tacoma, Washington and spent 32 years at the City of Tacoma, Water Department, retiring as the City Water Supply Manager.
Dave had many special interests and hobbies, including backpacking, hiking, fishing, building wooden kayaks, renovating vintage cars and gardening. One of his greatest passions of all time was running and he was preparing for his tenth Boston Marathon in 2023. He died on the Orting trail during a long run. He and his wife were members of the running group Silver Striders for over 10 years and made many long lasting friendships. They spent much of their retired time on running vacations throughout the country, while taking in Blues musical festivals whenever they could. Beer was always enjoyed after a good long run.
Leading a simple and fulfilling life, he was genuine, caring and an engaging human being who loved his children and his grandchild Levi. He loved all of his family members in Washington and Montana. He pondered the mystery of life on his many adventures in the Alpine Lakes. One of his greatest joys were his dogs â€" Jenny, Cassie, Pako, Jessie and little Pepper.
There will be no memorial service per his request. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to charities that Dave supported and were meaningful to him, such as The Nature Conservancy and The Humane Society.
