Dennis Bod Obituary

Dennis Bod
June 12, 1934 - February 6, 2023
Tacoma, Washington - Dennis Bod passed away on Monday, February 6th, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 88. He was born in North Dakota to Oscar and Clara Bod and later moved to Tacoma. Dennis graduated Stadium High School and then Pacific University in Oregon. After 7 years of dating, he married his high school sweetheart, Liz. They were married for 57 years prior to Liz passing in 2017, and lived in Federal Way and Tacoma the entire time. With the help of his family, he built a house in Federal Way where they raised their only son, Bruce, who gave them a daughter-in-law, Tammy, three grandchildren, Nick (Melisa), Courtney (Daryl), Niel, and two grand puppies, Abbie and Leroy. From that point forward he was known as "Papa." Dennis worked for The Boeing Company and retired in 1995 after 35 years. In 2018 he met Trish Harrison. They both loved to travel and go on adventures together until right up to the end.
Papa was a kind and generous man who loved his family and social interactions with just about anyone. He would strike up conversations with complete strangers and soon become friends. He was full of life and lived for adventure and experiences. Papa loved doing projects and when something was not quite perfect, he would often say, "good enough for Boeing" and move on to the next thing. He loved telling stories about his life growing up, from work, and his adventures. When he would be called out on the accuracy of something, he would just smile and say "details, details!" and then we would all laugh. Papa had a million sayings like these that we will all miss so much. Even though we all would tell him that we loved him, I don't think he could ever imagine just how much we really do, and miss him so very much. We love you Papa!!!

I only knew Dennis for the last few years of his life. He was a wonderful person. He was a storyteller and a "Do-er." No moss grew under his feet! He loved a project, he loved travel and he was a very kind and generous person. He voice filled with emotion when he talked about family. He is missed.

Papa - It´s hard to believe we´re writing this - it still hasn´t sunk in yet. You´re greatly missed. The fact we´ll never see your face again breaks our hearts. We will miss your laugh, smile, and the many great (and sometimes elaborate stories) you´d tell. Thank you for all the holidays, birthdays, vacations, Buca di Beppo dinners and Easter Sundays at your house. No one can compete with your egg hunts - especially those years when you´d find eggs months later. Thank you for being my grandpa and for all the chats lately. I love you. Please give Niel, Nana, Max and Miss Bella a ton and ton of hugs and kisses from us. We miss you all so much.

Dennis and I shared being descendants of Gudmund and Ellen Ostriem Skaar. His mother, Clara, and my grandfather, Helmer, were brother and sister. I remember visiting Clara and Oscar's and Dennis and Liz's homes many times as a child when our family would travel to the West Coast to visit relatives. I guess you could say that we were/are proud Norwegian with North Dakota roots. My father loved talking to Dennis on the phone as they stayed in touch until the end when Dad died in 2011. I am so sorry to know that we lost the last of this generation. My condolences to Bruce and Tamara and their three children as they grieve the loss of their father/grandfather "papa".

Dennis will be greatly missed thru family and friends like myself. I Have been friends since 1st grade thru high school. Dennis and I had many good times together. I enjoyed having lunch with him the last Friday of the month with our class of 54. Also we got together on Tuesdays with Jim Ellison for coffee. Oh, did I tell you he shot me in the stomach once with a BB gun, and he hired 2 guys to through me into a watering trout after we got off of work at the colonial gardens where we worked every summer. He also stole Mom´s freshly baked pies and ran thru the field laughing at her. Mom was just tickled he liked the pies, but she went after him with a broom, never the less.
Had many good times. Allyn Pollock ( Lynn )
