DORIS ZIEGENFELDER

Doris Howell Ziegenfelder Has passed to her Lord on February 13, 2010. Doris was born March 18, 1931 to Ralph and Jessie D. Howell in Manhattan, New York. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Rush F. Ziegenfelder III, her step-mother Margaret Howell, brother Ralph Howell, and three children, son Rush IV and his wife Sonya, son Jay, daughter Laura Clark and her husband Roger, and six grandchildren, Rush V, Ashley, Lindsay, Brooks, Matthew and Ernest. Doris, at a young age, played her sister's wooden flute accompanied by her Dad on either piano or pipe organ. With her new Haynes flute, she studied with two famous flutists, Ernest Wagner of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the wonderful Lambros D. Callimahos. She was priveleged to also play for Marcel Moyse. Doris played first chair flute in seven symphony orchestras in America and Europe, including the Tacoma Symphony. Her greatest joy was teaching students of all ages. She taught at PLU and can be seen in the music video "The Wind and the Sea". A private family memorial will be held.
