Spanaway, Washington - George, the only child of George Ernest and Margaret Esther, born on October 3, 1935 in Tacoma Washington passed away August 22, 2021; aged 85 years.
Preceded in death by his wife Clara, married 59 years. They graduated from Lincoln High School of Tacoma in the class of 1955 and were married June 23, 1956.
George is also preceded in death by his son Michael but survived by 3 children, 4 grand children and 3 great grandchildren.
George worked as a pin-setter at Lincoln Bowl in Tacoma before working many years in the produce department at Safeway.
His next adventure was owning his own vending machine business, which George & Clara named the C.A.G.E. company by using middle initials of their 4 children.
After living in California for a brief time, George returned to Tacoma and worked as a taxi driver for Yellow Cab in Tacoma.
When the company expanded to providing ambulance service, George took that on too. This was long before what we now know as EMTs.
He was later promoted to dispatcher, but still occasionally went out on ambulance calls.
In the fall of 1971 George moved the family to Sacramento California. After several jobs he ended up working for Yellow Cab there.
However, he became home-sick and moved back to Tacoma in 1977 where he ended up working for Tacoma Public Utilities. He retired from there in 1997.
George has been an active member of each the Portland Cascade and Rainer Chapters of the BCCA (Brewery Collectibles Club of America).
He was the featured story in the Tacoma News Tribune Sparetimer section published January 4, 1986.
There will be no service because, as Clara said, "we've already outlived all of our friends".
