HARRIET WEIR

Harriet E. Weir Age 97, a longtime Tacoma-area resident and registered nurse, died peacefully Thursday, February 20, 2014 in Allyn, WA. Daughter of Hilmer and Gunda Hanson, she was born in Durand, WI September 18, 1916. She was raised in Glenwood, MN and attended Eitel School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN. Harriet moved to Tacoma to join family, and in 1946 met and married Edwin "Jack" Weir on March 15th. She retired in 1981 from former Doctors Hospital of Tacoma, and many patients remembered her nursing care and skills. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tacoma. She loved her family, friends, flowers, conversation, travel, and good food. Her last years were spent at Life Manor Assisted Living in Tacoma. Harriet was predeceased by her husband "Jack," the love of her life, and her sister Katherine (Warren) Schaub. She is survived by two nephews, Allen (Gayle) Ferrell of Atlanta, GA and John Ferrell of Sausalito, CA, grandnieces Huntleigh Ferrell of Atlanta and Ashley (John) Statham, great-grandnieces Anna and Emma, and great-grandnephew John of Marietta, GA. Two nieces by marriage, Carmen Caporale of Allyn, WA and Diane (Dennis) Obermeier of Redmond, WA and families, were her local family. Burial will be private. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, Lakewood, WA.
