June Gilson Obituary

June Gilson June Gilson, a lifetime resident of Ruston, passed away, on March 14th, 2004, at the age of 90. She was born in Ruston to James and Emelie (Giertz) Garrison, who were pioneers of the state of Washington, on May 6, 1913. June graduated from Stadium High School, where she was active in athletics and captain of the girl's basketball team. She married in February of 1943, and had one child. June retired from Griffin Galbraith Fuel Oil Company in May of 1978. This gave her the opportunity and joy of spending time with her only grandson, who was born that same year. Gardening, baking pies and making candy were some of the activities that June enjoyed. The last two years of her life her cat, JC (June's cat), kept her company and kept her moving! June made every day count and she gave unconditional love to her family and friends. She was a very special sister, mother, aunt and friend. We will miss her sense of humor that came with a big smile, a hug and a twinkle in her eyes. She is preceded in death by her son Terry Gilson, two brothers Lee Garrison and Chester Garrison, three sisters Irene Anderson, Lucille Bohnett and Helen Dahl. She is survived by her grandson Troy Gilson, one sister Marian Ganz and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at "My Grandma's House", especially Maria, Meg and Elvie, for their kindness and loving care. Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18th. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 19th at 11:00 in the Evergreen Chapel, New Tacoma Cemetery with interment to follow.

Grandma June we knew her as was a grandma to me growwing up as to so many others. My dad was Bud Diedrich whom worked with her and my Uncle Cliff Griffin. I grew up knowing this lady and have talked about her to my own family now. I remember going into the fuel yard and seeing her and she was the most darling lady. Bud has been gone for almost 3 years now and I know dad will greet this old friend when she enters those gates My love to her family .
