LEONARD GUSS

Leonard M. Guss Passed away in his Woodinville home on November 7, 2013 at the age of 86. Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Claudia Guss, of 29 years. He also leaves behind their daughter, Theodora Sternagel, his five sons, Matthew, Stuart, Peter, Jonathan, and Gavin, ten grandchildren, his brother Brian, and many other family members. Leonard was born to the late David and Fay Guss on Dec. 8, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After serving in the Navy during WWII, he returned home to earn his B.A. in zoology and chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He later went on to receive his M.B.A. from Drexel University and his doctorate in marketing from Ohio State University. Leonard was a lifelong scholar and avid reader. He was passionate about education and put all of his children through school or provided them with other educational opportunities. He never retired from his work, and stayed vigorous with many interests including foreign languages, cooking, and horseback riding with his family. Over the course of his career Leonard worked at E. F. Houghton, Battelle Institute, and Weyerhaeuser as Director, Corporate Economic and Marketing Research. Over forty years ago he established his own marketing and economic research firm, Leonard Guss Associates. It was there that he met his future wife, Claudia, when she joined the company in 1982. Services will be held this Thursday at 11:00am at Holy Family Parish in Kirkland.
