LLOYD LOCKBAUM Obituary

Lloyd J. "Lucky" Lockbaum Was born December 4, 1926 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and passed away in Tacoma after complications from surgery. At the age of 16 he left Wisconsin and came west to Seattle to work in the shipyards as a welder. At age 17 he joined the Navy, became a Sea-Bee and served in the Aleutian Islands, building runways and facilities. After the war was over he became a truck driver and drove the Alcan Highway before Alaska was a state. Lloyd met his wife Jeannie in 1948 and married in 1950. Lloyd was a retired civil service employee at Camp Murray and a member of the Washington State National Guard, retiring after 38 years at the rank of CWO-4. After retirement in 1984, Lloyd, an avid outdoorsman, spent many hours volunteering, traveling (especially to Hawaii) with his favorite companion Jeannie, and spending time with his family. The highlight of his life was living near his grandsons and watching them grow. Lloyd's nickname "Lucky" was known by his many friends because of his good luck. He even won a car playing nickel slots in Las Vegas! Lloyd is survived by his wife Jeannie of 58 years, daughter Sherrie and husband Gary, son Tim and wife Sheri, grandsons Michael and Brian, brothers Earl and Jim, sisters RoseMary and Irene. Lloyd was preceded in death by his oldest son Stephen. At Lloyd's request there will be no service. There will be a memorial gathering at a later date. The family requests a donation to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital. LLoyd will be cremated and his ashes spread out to sea where his son Stephen will be waiting at the dock with a fishing pole in one hand and a cold Bud in the other. "Welcome home, Dad. I've missed you." Thanks for the memory and love. Your loving family.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Lockbaum family. Lloyd was such a great story teller. The memories of sitting in the little fireplace den at the old house when I was a kid are memories that I'm sure many share with me. Lloyd loved life and it showed. I will miss him.

Knowing that he will now be joining Stephen at sea for a cold one is fitting for a such a pair of great Irishmen.

Such fond memories I have of Uncle Lucky cooking Easter dinner at Grandpa's house while wearing Grandpa's famous apron. Thanks to Uncle Lucky, I now have one of those aprons in my kitchen drawer. Every time I hear the words "to make a long story short" I think of Uncle Lucky!
