MARGARET MCNERTHNEY Obituary

Margaret J. (Rix) McNerthney Margaret J. (Rix) McNerthney, affectionately known as Peggy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2014, surrounded by her beloved family. We lost an amazing woman. She was elegant, smart, independent, loving, our dear friend, and a friend to many. Born January 11, 1925 and raised in Chicago, she was the daughter of F. Howard Crowther and Helen Rust Crowther. On July 23, 1944, Peggy married "the boy next door", Alfred W. Rix. They moved to Lakewood, Washington in 1951 when Al started his career with Weyerhaeuser. After starting their family, Peggy stayed home for several years to raise her children. As her children grew, she began her career in the banking industry as an executive assistant. She retired after many years with American Savings Bank. Al passed away in 1987, and in 1989 Peggy married M. James McNerthney. For at least a dozen years, they spent half of the year at their home in Palm Desert and the other half of the year at their home in Lakewood. Jim passed away in 2007. Peggy loved to garden and was a member of the Tacoma Garden Club as well as the Tacoma Orthopedic Guild. An avid bridge player, dog lover, and golfer, she made friends wherever she went and played bridge several times a week in many bridge groups over the years. Peggy was a member of Fircrest Golf Club and Oakbrook Golf and Country Club for many years. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Gotham and her son Douglas and his wife Linda. She is also survived by her grandson Lucas Gotham and her dear nephew Court Crowther, his wife Myrna, and their daughter Lauren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother F. Howard Crowther, Jr. The family would like to thank the Merrill Gardens at Tacoma staff for their caring and kindness to Peggy. Remembrances can be made to Franciscan Hospice or the charity of your choice. The family will hold an open house at her son Douglas's home on Saturday, June 28th, from three to five p.m. We welcome family friends and those who knew Peggy to come.
