Auburn, Washington - Patricia R. Mullens passed on February 18, 2023 at the age of 87. She was born in Topeka, Kansas to Donald and Violet Greenland. When she was three years old, the dustbowl drove the family out of Kansas and they moved to the logging community of Adna, Washington. Her childhood was spent outdoors as much as possible and early in life she developed her lifelong affection for animals, especially cats. Her father complained that he had to milk a cow just for the cats. She graduated from Centralia High School. For two years she attended Centralia College where she met her husband, Jim Mullens. She then earned a degree in education at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. She married Jim in 1958. They moved to Auburn, Washington and she spent her career working for Boeing. Her entire adult life was spend volunteering her time and money to the preservation of animals in need. She fostered dozens of cats who were unadoptable through the Cascade Animal Protection Society. More recently she devoted her resources to the Auburn Humane Society. She is survived by her brother Donald C. Greenland of Vilonia, Arkansas, two nieces Jann Greenland and Sharlee (Larry) Luben of Edgewood, Washington and two nephews Donald (Angela) Greenland III of Conway, Arkansas and Mike (Kim) Brannan of Salkum, Washington along with several great nieces and nephews. A small private memorial is pending.
