WOODROW JONES Obituary

Woodrow Fisher Jones, Sr. July 24, 1918 B August 8, 2009 Woodrow Fisher Jones, the last surviving child of Johnnie & Katy Jones, of Huntsville TX, went to be with his Lord on August 8, 2009. Woodrow leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Vivian, his three children, Woodrow Jr., Jeane Jones Parker, and Michael, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large extended family to mourn his passing. After graduating from high school in Huntsville, Mr. Jones married his neighborhood sweetheart, Vivian Brazill. After his WWII service in the Navy, his wife's uncle convinced him to take a chance on Washington, and the family arrived here in 1946 in the uncle's new Lincoln. After sharing housing in the Hilltop area and finally getting a good job with the Federal Civil Service as a painter at Ft. Lewis, the Jones' moved into the family home near Stanley Elementary School, where he resided until his death. Shiloh Baptist Church, where his brother-in-law, the Rev. E. S. Brazill served as pastor, was his church home. He proudly served the church in many roles, and led the Board of Deacons for many years. By his quiet leadership and gentle manner, his message of respect for self and community, contribution through service, and love of God and family, was a beacon of strength to all who knew him. Woodrow will be greatly missed by his family and the Shiloh Community, but we know that he has gone to that promised better place, and he will be welcomed as a "good and faithful servant." Arrangements are being handled by The House of Scott, 1215 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Tacoma, WA 98405-3927. There will be a wake at the House of Scott on Thursday, August 13, 6-8 PM. The funeral will be at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1211 S I St. Tacoma, WA 98405-5022, on Friday, August 14, at 11:00 AM.

Woody, Jeannie, Mike and Mother Jones.
Our sincere sympathies to you all. I only have very fond memories of your dad, mainly from my youth. My grandmother, Ethel, would bring me to Shiloh with her and my clearest memories include your father's smile. What a kind man he was. I didn't hear of his passing until the Saturday after the service and would surely have been there to pay my respects. He is now in a state of complete happiness. We will all see him again.
Love you all,
Angie (Edwards) and family
