Carl David Hulfachor, 89, of Eckerty, Indiana, passed away after a brief illness on January 20, 2025, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care in Jasper. He was born October 28, 1935, in Patoka, Indiana, one of ten children born to the late Homer and Lona (Gillam) Hulfachor.
Carl joined the U.S. Army in 1957 and proudly served for six years in the Army Security Agency, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. Afterward, he received a bachelor's degree from Oakland City University followed by a Master's degree from Indiana University. In 1966, Carl married Jessie Taul in Seymour, Indiana. He dedicated himself to a long career teaching fifth grade at Seymour-Jackson Elementary School for 34 years. During his tenure there, for eleven years, he coached fifth and sixth grade basketball. Carl is fondly remembered as helping to positively shape the character of many of Seymour's youth. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and biscuits and gravy. Carl was known to walk around Lake Patoka, searching for fishing lures; and he had a collection of over 2,000 of these found lures. He also enjoyed Indiana University basketball. But Carl will best be remembered for his love of the Lord and his devotion to his wife, Jessie. The extent of this legacy and other details of his life's blessings can be found in his book, "Created To Soar, Including My 'Out of Body' Observations," published in 2022.
Left behind to cherish Carl's memory are his beloved wife, Jessie; brothers, Roy (Dixie) Hulfachor and Larry (Nancy) Hulfachor; sister, Jane (Glenn) Hulfachor Williams; and 20 nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, listed above; brothers, Stanley Eldon (Clara) Hulfachor, Homer Vernon (Nell) Hulfachor, and James Max Hulfachor; and sisters, Beulah Marie Hulfachor, Ona Marie (John) Hulfachor, and June (William) Hulfachor Hensley.
