Claude Dickey Obituary

Claude L. "Bud" Dickey, 95, of Seymour, died at 12:28 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Nov. 14, 1918, in Columbus, he was the son of Claude G. and Luella Pointer Dickey. He married Virginia L. Tewell on Aug. 26, 1966.
The world lost a good man with the passing of Bud Dickey. Over his life span of almost 96 years, he worked hard and fought in World War II for four years in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He grew up during the Great Depression and knew the value of the dollar, but also knew the value of his family far outweighed anything monetary. He was an independent carpenter and building contractor, well known for his hard work and talent, and had a reputation for being a little ornery and a joker. He always stood up for the underdog and gave his love and support unstintingly to his family. We love you and will miss you, but set you free for a long deserved rest.
Survivors include his children, Cindy Dickey, Shari Dickey and Megan Dickey McKinney; stepchildren, Bonita Robertson, Steven Day, Melody Kriete and Natalie Day; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, David Dickey.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Virginia L. Tewell Dickey, who died Jan. 28, 2014.
A graveside ceremony for both Bud and Virginia will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
Services were entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
