Evelyn Nichalson Obituary

Mrs. Evelyn J. Nichalson, New Whiteland, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the early afternoon of Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the age of 88.

Evelyn was born October 7, 1936, in Columbus, Indiana, a beloved daughter of the late Rice and Edna (Scalf) Johnson. A graduate of Columbus High School, Evelyn went on to dedicate many years of service as a clerk with Kmart, where she was known for her dependable work ethic and kind demeanor.

She was a former member of the Franklin Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and, alongside her husband, an active member of the Hillbilly Club of the Murat Shrine in Indianapolis. Evelyn had a deep love for the outdoors and found simple joy in sitting on her porch swing, surrounded by nature. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed crossword puzzles and possessed a rare talent for colorizing old black-and-white photographs-bringing new life to treasured family memories.

Among her most cherished pastimes were camping and fishing trips with her family. Evelyn's greatest joy came from the time she spent with her loved ones.

She is survived by her children, Terry L. (Vina) Nichalson, Randy J. (Debbie) Nichalson, Tim A. Nichalson and Melanie (Patrick) Gallagher; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Clayton Nichalson; a great-grandson; and eight siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, May 19, 2025, in the Chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, Indiana. Evelyn will be laid to rest beside her husband at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens following the service.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.

For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered in Evelyn's honor to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
