Larry Isaacs Obituary
Larry Isaacs, age 84, of Medora, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, December 4, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent, Salem with his wife of 62 years by his side.
Mr. Isaacs deeply loved his Lord and Savior, and he was a devoted and active lifetime member of Honeytown Christian Church, where he served as Elder.
Larry graduated from Cortland High School in 1959. Following his high school graduation, he attended Purdue University and participated in the ROTC program, where he also played on the men's basketball team. He graduated from Purdue University in 1963 with a degree in Agricultural Science. After graduation, he was commissioned into the United States Army and continued his basketball career as a member of the Army men's basketball team. Following his military service, Larry began his professional career with Schafstall Builders, spent several years at Cummins, and later joined Rose Acre Farms, where he worked for 39 years before retiring in February, 2021. Larry was truly passionate about his work.
In addition to his professional career, Larry was a lifelong farmer with a deep passion for horses. He especially cherished the time spent working on his farm alongside his family, especially trail riding, as they cared for their livestock together. Larry loved his family dearly and consistently supported them in their various pursuits throughout life. Community involvement and staying active in the lives of his children and grandchildren were profoundly important to him.
Larry was a dedicated member of the Jackson County Cattleman's Association, the American Legion in Brownstown, and the Purdue Alumni Association (lifetime). He was an avid Purdue enthusiast and loyal Purdue fan throughout his life. Larry was also a well-known and highly respected professional in the Poultry Industry and a devoted member of the Indiana Poultry Association and the National Poultry Association.
Larry was a true friend to many and was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.
Born on June 18, 1941, at his home in Honeytown, Larry was the son of Richard and Wilma (Oathout) Isaacs, both of whom preceded him in death. On September 15, 1963, in Brownstown, he married Sue Curry, and she survives in Medora.
Survivors also include four sons: Doug Isaacs of Medora, Greg Isaacs of Medora, Brad (Nickie) Isaacs of Brownstown, and Todd (Jodi) Isaacs of Chandler, Arizona; five grandchildren: Alicia Isaacs (Matt Comer and his son, Colton), Brittany (Tyler) Neal, Cassidy Isaacs, Kylie Isaacs, and Paige Isaacs; one great-grandson, Truett Neal; daughter-in-law, Kristie Isaacs; one brother, William "Bill" Isaacs of Wolcott; and one sister-in-law, Suzy Isaacs of Brownstown.
Larry was also preceded in death by one son, Jeff Isaacs; one brother, Dickie "Ray" Isaacs; one sister and brother-in-law, Peggy (Isaacs) Carmichael and Gary Carmichael; and sister-in-law, Linda (Baker) Isaacs.
Funeral services for Larry Isaacs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Michael Hogg officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Interment will follow at Robertson Cemetery.
Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, and Vietnam Vets 7.
Memorials may be given to Honeytown Christian Church, HOPE Medora Goes Pink, or Donor's choice.
