Linda Gerald Bergum

Linda Gerald Bergum, 77, recently of Noblesville and formerly of Frankfort, died on November 1, 2025, at Story Cottage at Carey Grove in Carmel, Indiana. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Edward and Wanda (Kraszewski) Gerald on May 8, 1948. Linda married Lester N. Bergum, Jr. (Les) on June 7, 1970 in Seymour, Indiana.

Linda was a 1966 graduate of Seymour High School and received her BS Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University in 1969 where she was member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and the IU Foundation. Linda later received her master's degree in Elementary Remedial Reading from Butler University in 1973. She taught elementary school for the Indianapolis Public Schools from 1970 to 1974 while Les completed his active duty in the U.S. Army Reserves and attended law school. Linda then taught for several years at Community Schools of Frankfort and later retired from elementary teaching in 2006 after serving 23 proud years at Rossville Elementary School.

Linda was a member of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Frankfort where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years, served as a Deacon and participated in numerous Mountain Mission School trips to rural Virginia. Linda volunteered for Food Finders in Frankfort, for Saint Matthews House during winter months in Florida and as a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) trained to focus on advocacy for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system. When her children were young, she enjoyed serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother and as President of the Riley School Parent Teacher Association.

Linda was a member of Community Minded Women of Frankfort (formerly Tri Kappa), Red Hat Society, Aftermath and Frankfort Literary Club. She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and vacationing with her family, following I.U. football and basketball, Bluegrass music and an occasional glass of fine Pinot Noir.

Linda is survived by her best friend and husband, Les, of 55 years, and by their sons: Benjamin Bergum of Louisville, Kentucky, and Jonathan (Emily) Bergum of Fort Collins, Colorado; and grandchildren: Delilah Bergum and Charlotte Bergum, both of Fort Collins, Colorado, and a brother, Rand (Lisa) Gerald of Naperville, IL and niece, Jerusha Gerald of Dekalb, IL.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Compassus Hospice Care Team and to the entire staff of Story Cottage at Carey Grove in Carmel, Indiana, for the care Linda received during her last few weeks.

A service honoring Linda will be held at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 352 W. Clinton Street, Frankfort, Indiana, on at Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kelly Kurth officiating. Visitation with refreshments will follow the service in Fellowship Hall at the church.
