Raymond Dismore Obituary

Raymond G. Dismore, 89, of Underwood, Indiana, passed away at 3:42 PM on February 19, 2025, at Lake Pointe Village. He was born on June 22, 1935, in Salem, Indiana, to Glenn and Edna (Woods) Dismore.

Raymond proudly served in the United States Navy, enlisting in 1955 and serving with the Seabees, the Navy's construction force, during two tours in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1967. After his military service, Raymond began working for the Brownstown Post Office, where he made a lasting impact as the first walking postal carrier in Brownstown. He retired in 1992 after decades of dedicated service.

On July 2, 1967, Raymond married his beloved wife, Elizabeth Betty Jean Waddell, at Brownstown Christian Church. They shared 57 wonderful years together, building a life full of love, faith, and devotion.

A past member of the Masonic Lodge in Brownstown, Raymond graduated from Vallonia High School in 1954. His faith was an essential part of his life, and he lived out his Christian beliefs with kindness, patience, loyalty, and a generous heart. He was known for his love of family, and he could always be counted on for his loving and supportive nature.

After retirement, Raymond and Betty enjoyed traveling for over 15 years, selling their home to purchase a travel trailer and exploring the country. In addition to traveling, Raymond had a love for tinkering and carpentry, often building and creating things with his own hands. He also found joy in reading, particularly the Guideposts and the Bible.

Raymond leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory, including his loving wife, Elizabeth Betty Jean Dismore of Underwood, Indiana; three children, Gail (Jeff) Robbins of Underwood, Indiana, Brenda Susie Lewis of Paris Crossing, Indiana, and Raymond Glenn (Amy) Dismore of Raymond, Maine; siblings Janet Thompson, Glenda (Richard) Greathouse, and Richard (Loni) Dismore; seven grandchildren, Angelica Dawn Akers, Darla Gail (Nery) Morales, Dilana Lee Lewis, Michael David (Kristina) Lewis, Alyssa Dismore, Joe Dismore, and Owen Dismore; three step-grandchildren, Joey Robbins, Sheena Robbins, and Shelby Robbins; fourteen great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; four and a half great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jackie Dismore, and two sons-in-law, Garry Akers and David Lewis.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM, at Adams Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Crothersville. Burial will follow at Cana Cemetery.
