William Hackman Obituary

William H. Hackman, 86, of Seymour was called home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2025. He was born on July 18, 1939, in Seymour, Indiana, to the late Amos and Katy (Duwe) Hackman. He married Sandra Jean Wagoner on September 7, 1958, at the Brownstown Christian Church. William (Bill) lived a life that exemplified the Christian virtues of love, kindness, and charity.

A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Bill was a steadfast presence in the community. He dedicated over three decades of his life on his family farm and another three decades at Rose Acre Farms as a truck driver, a job he deeply loved for the countless friendships he formed along the way. His warm smile became familiar comforts to those he met on his routes. He also served with the Indiana National Guard for eight years.

Bill's faith in Christ was the cornerstone of his existence. He was Baptized and Confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church - Sauers and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour. He lived his beliefs through every action; from the early morning hours spent in the fields as a diligent farmer to the heartfelt prayers he offered up each night. His love for the Lord was evident in the way he treated everyone he encountered, always with respect and an open heart.

As a grandfather, Bill's love was a guiding force. His grandchildren, and great grandsons, were his pride and joy. He reveled in the laughter and adventures shared, imparting wisdom and creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Bill's wit was as legendary as his affinity for the Chicago Bears and Purdue Basketball. Many a day was spent cheering on his favorite teams, his enthusiasm as infectious as his good humor. His love for simple pleasures, like a cup of coffee paired with a donut, was a reminder of the joy to be found in life's little moments.

To speak of Bill's character is to speak of a man who would, quite literally, give the shirt off his back for a neighbor in need. He never thought of himself, always placing the needs of others before his own. This was further exemplified by his and his family's commitment to fostering children, providing a loving and nurturing home to those in need of care and affection.

Surviving to cherish Bill's memory are his children, Brad Hackman, Anita Deckert, Angela (Matt) Hixson, and Kevin (Chanda) Hackman; grandchildren, Haley (Mikey) Blair, Morgan Hixson, Jeremiah (Brooklyn) Hackman, and Jalen Hackman; great grandsons, Kellan Hackman and Sampson Blair; brother, Leon (Becky) Hackman; sisters-in-law, Mary Hackman, Wendy Burrell and several nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, wife; brothers, Eugene (Lorna) Hackman, Earl (Joyce) Hackman, Omer (Alvona) Hackman, Hubert Hackman; sister, Lois (Barry) Sommers; brothers-in-law, Larry Weddle, Tom (Ginger) Weddle, Jerry Burrell and sister-in-law, Joann (Lester) England.

A memorial service will take place at Voss & Sons Funeral Service, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour, on Tuesday, December 30th, at 11:00 am with Rev Philip Bloch officiating. Family and friends may call from 9 am until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
