David Whitten Obituary

WHITTEN - David Hays Whitten, 67, entered eternal rest after a brief illness Dec. 1, 2024.
David was born in Macon, Ga., to his mother, Barbara Hays Hall, and his father, the late Richard Anthony "Red" Whitten. He graduated from high school in Danville, Va., and then returned to Macon, Ga., where he lived and worked for Hays Heating and Plumbing until 1985, when he moved his family to Woodbine, Ga., to work construction at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in St. Marys, Ga. In 1988, David was hired by Harry Pepper & Associates Construction of Jacksonville, Fla., where he worked for 34 years until his retirement in 2022. His work took him to places like Clewiston, Key West, Naples, Lake Okeechobee, Arkansas and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathryn Sue Darley Whitten; daughters, Kathryn Angela (Mike) Rivera and Kimberly Jean (Ryan) Dehnert; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael (Lynneth) Whitten and Rick (Sue) Whitten. David's younger sister, Mary Angela, preceded him in death. David is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be Feb, 15, 2025, at Crescent Baptist Church in Townsend, Ga.

David and I were friends in Jr High School and reconnected in the early 80s at "the Farm" in Juliette. Fond memories of those days in our youth. I was sorry to hear Angela had also past.
