George Southall Obituary
SOUTHALL - On Dec. 24, 1960, God allowed a very special child, George William Southall, to be born in Gilman Hospital in St. Marys, Ga., to the proud parents of Amos Lee Southall Sr., and Lela Pearl Southall. George was named after Dr. George William Barker, who delivered him. Mother Pearl always said she brought George home on Christmas Day.
George was educated in the public schools in Camden County. As a student, George took a serious interest in art (drawing pictures to scale) with such detail.
George went into the workforce and was very skilled at preserving tanks, floor renovation, carpet installation and building of various styles of roof trusses.
Although George did not have any biological children, he took care of so many of the children in the family. George is affectionately known as Uncle Will to his many nieces and nephews. To his siblings and friends, he was known by Pretty Boy George, the Original Tootsie Roll and GW. Brother George would tell the kids to stay in school and get an education. He was known for always telling his family, "I love you Suga Poo and don't forget I love you," before leaving. Brother George was a true, loving, dependable caregiver of his youngest brother Gregory, by providing that continual stability and companionship.
On July 10, 2025, Brother George William Southall slipped quietly and peacefully away to a better and more beautiful home, after completion of his last assignment.
Loving memories of George will be cherished by his four brothers, George Kirby Sr. of Phoenix, Ariz., and Herman Southall, Amos Southall Jr. and Gregory Southall, all of St. Marys, Ga.; six sisters, First Lady Lynette (Bishop John) Burroughs of Kingsland, Ga., Janice Southall of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda (Deacon Jerry) Mathis of St. Marys, Ga., Felecia (Brother Drexel) Morris of Kingsland, Ga., and Charmaye Lovett Hamilton (Brother Lewis, deceased) and Andrea (Deacon Johnny) Simon, both of St. Marys, Ga.; one uncle, Herman (Bobby) Southall; and special first cousin, affectionately known as Auntie Juanita Atkinson.
Brother George had many loving and caring family and friends. Special devoted team of doctors: McKinney Medical Center; Dr. Marcus Bowen, SGHS; Dr. Evan Fountain, Dr. Abhishek Bhurwal and a special niece – Nurse Lakeemba (Niki) Atwaters, who tracked his care and advised the way forward.
Brother George will be greatly missed by his siblings, the many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, relatives and the entire North River Community.
