Helen Crummey Obituary

CRUMMEY - Helen Boatright Crummey, 88, of Kingsland, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
She was born in Baxley, Ga., to the late D.M. and Lillie Mae Cauley Boatright.
Helen was deeply devoted to her family. She will be remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her. Helen was the sweetest mom ever, always serving others by making homemade jelly and giving it away, making her signature caramel cake for all family events, visiting her parents and grandparents, making her children's school clothes, and she also loved tending to her flowers.
She and her husband have been members of First Baptist Church in Kingsland since 1959. Helen served as a Sunday School teacher for the teen girls, taught vacation Bible school and an adult Sunday School class, and was church secretary many years ago. She was very active in the Kingsland Woman's Club, sold Avon for more than 10 years, and worked as a paraprofessional at Kingsland Elementary School.
She and several friends would take annual summer trips together to the North Georgia mountains and surrounding areas. One year, this adventurous group inner-tubed down the Chattahoochee River. She was known for her outstanding memory of recalling the kids' names she taught through the years. Even after she got sick, she would still check on her children to follow up on the outcomes of their medical appointments. Her family knew her to be an excellent cook, warm, kind, patient, considerate, very independent, generous, and after her children were grown and gone from home, she liked to sleep late.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Harold Watson, Valera Plemmons, Hilda Johnson, Eugene Boatright and Larry Boatright; a stillborn infant son; and Eloise Hyatt, a stillborn infant great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gerald Crummey; children, Keith Crummey (Jennifer), Kerry Crummey (Judith), Kim Lett (Bud) and Karla Turner (Art); six grandchildren, Lauren Hyatt, Leanne Coulombe, Will Boatright, Cliff Crummey, Ann Hinson and Naomi Sweat; three step-grandchildren, Bren Stevenson, Chelsea Rodriguez and Cheryl McMillan; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, at First Baptist Church Kingsland, officiated by Brother Vernon Dillingham and Pastor Clay Powell. Pallbearers included Mike Brazell, Chris Walker, Joey Skipper, Timmy Mann, Will Ellis and Russell O'Quinn.
Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
