Barbara was born 01/19/1921 in Buena, Washington, to Mildred Hall Reid and Albert Graham Reid. She was the 4th of 6 children and raised on the family apple ranch in Buena. She moved to Seattle and attended the University of Washington; when WWII broke out she worked at the Boeing Plant helping assemble the B-17.
She always wanted to be a dancer and moved to Hollywood against her father's wishes. She didn't become a dancer but she got a job as Zazu Pitts personal secretary. After Hollywood, she moved back to Yakima and worked at Pacific Power and Light, where she met her soon to be husband, John H. Budd. She married John Henry Budd at her family home in Buena on May 3rd, 1947. They moved to Richland, Washington, where John was an electrical engineer for GE at The Hanford Atomic Energy Plant. John accepted a job with Standard Oil of New Jersey/Creole Petroleum and they moved to Venezuela where they lived for two years in the late 1950s. Afterwards, they moved back to Richland and raised their two daughters, Diana Budd Garrett and Jean Leslie (Budd) Goldsmith.
Diana now lives in Princeton, New Jersey, with her husband, Robert Young Garrett IV. They have two daughters, Emily Stewart Garrett of Chicago, Illinois, and Kathryn Reid Garrett of Roanoke, Virginia.
Jean lives in Redmond, Washington, and is married to Paul Goldsmith. They have two children, Sean Goldsmith of Bellingham, Washington, and Lindsay Reid Goldsmith of San Diego, California.
John and Barbara moved to Bellevue, Washington, after Richland, then moved to Goldendale, where John was the manager of the Klickitat PUD until his death March 5, 1983. Barbara stayed in Goldendale for several years and then moved to Bellevue. She lived with her daughter, Jean, for about 12 years until her health moved her into assisted living. She suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and was unable to walk her last years. She died of natural causes.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy Michaels, in Camano Island, Washington; and brother, Dave Reid, in Buena, Washington.
Barbara enjoyed her family and loved a good laugh. Her favorite movies were Young Frankenstein and Tom Jones. She also enjoyed politics and always had to watch Fox News. She will be truly missed by all her family and friends.
She requested no formal funeral and will be laid to rest in Zillah along with her husband and the Reid Family.
