Charles Jackson Obituary

Charles Jackson

February 27, 1927 - December 31, 2024

Vancouver, Washington - Charles Nicholas Jackson Junior, age 97, was called to be with God on December 31, 2024. Charles was born February 27, 1927, in Sangerfield, New York. Charles who liked to be called Charlie was the oldest of four children who were all close, raised in a Catholic family.

Charlie grew up on a farm with his three siblings Leonard, Anne, and Jim. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1944. He attended Clarkson College for two years, before being drafted into the Navy and sent to Del Monte California for Technical Training. He met his wife Kathleen while at a Navy Mother's Club dance in San Francisco. After a year in the Navy, WW II ended, he was discharged and returned to Clarkson College on the GI Bill graduating in 1948 with honors with a BSEE degree.

He was married in 1950 and made their first home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania working for General Electric. Over his career, Dad relocated our family a few times. His final move came in the summer of 1961 when he brought his family to Richland, Washington to work at the Hanford Reservation. His biggest career accomplishment was running the experimental nuclear reactor in the 300 Area where he specialized in neutron radiography and developing specialty tests for leak detection testing. A few of his accolades were he had published technical papers, patented inventions, and received fellowship status with the American Society of Nuclear Testing (ASNT).

Dad was a family man, and he saw to it that we received the best upbringing, by enrolling us in Christ the King School and attending Mass on Sundays at Christ the King Church. He participated in many activities such as the Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts of America, and Tri-City Bicycle Club to name a few. Dad was the Scoutmaster for Troop 249 for several years. One of his favorite hobbies was boating on the Columbia River during the scorching summer months and enjoying a cold beer. Charlie touched many people's lives in incredibly positive ways.

Charlie is preceded in death by his mother Margaret Lucy Quillman, his father Charles Nicholas Jackson, brother Leonard Jackson, sister Anne Jackson, wife Kathleen Jackson, and his oldest daughter Sheila Martinson.
