Elsie M. "Dolly" Lakey

Elsie Lakey Obituary

Prosser Funeral Home

Our Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, Elsie M. 'Dolly' Lakey, passed away on September 27, 2007, at Landmark Care Center after a short battle with lung cancer.

She was born on August 24, 1928, in South Dakota to Carl and Ruth (Williams) Schleauning and grew up in the Yakima Valley.

She met Darrell Lakey and they were married on October 12, 1946. They had 10 children.

She loved her family very much and had a closeness with her children. She knew things that they did and at times it seemed before they did it. When asked how, she would always say a little birdie told her. I believe the kids looked for that bird a time or two.

She was a special woman, always doing something and enjoying the time spent baking, making quilts, crocheting and working in her yard and garden.

When the children were young, she worked alongside Darrell when needed at Lakey's Butcher Shop in Granger. She later worked and retired from Seneca Foods in Prosser.

She was a long time resident of Grandview, Washington.

She always made time for friends and family, making everyone feel at home, sitting around her dining room table, enjoying coffee and friendly conversation.

Dolly is survived by her sister, Dorothy Henderson of Kennewick; sons, Dennis Lakey and wife, Ana of Seattle, David Lakey and wife, Trudie of Yakima, Jim Lakey and wife, Patricia of Yakima, Gary Lakey and wife, Roxanne of Sunnyside, Darren Lakey and wife, Jessica of Oroville, daughter, Darla Ellinghausen of Prosser; 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who were loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell in 1986; two sons, William and Jerry Lee; two daughters, Carol and Lynn Ann; her parents; brother, Bud and sister, Margie.

Mom knew no stranger and lived with an open heart. We will miss her very much.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m on Monday, October 1, 2007, at the Prosser Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, September 30, from 3until 6 p.m. and Monday, October 1, from 9 until 10:30 a.m. at Prosser Funeral Home.

Following the graveside service, a celebration of Dolly's life will be held at the Prosser Eagle's Lodge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Prosser Funeral Home.

Prosser Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
