Gary Lee Meyer, 80, passed away peacefully at home in Kennewick, WA, on November 8, 2013, following a prolonged illness.
Born in Wellington, KS, on March 5, 1933, to Harry L. and Anita Dunbar Meyer. He resided in Yakima, WA, LaGrande and Pendleton, OR. Gary served as an altar boy at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Pendleton. Upon graduation from Pendleton H.S. in 1951, Gary attended the University of Oregon in Eugene, was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and ROTC. After college he served his country in the Army Signal Corps at Camp Gordon, GA, and Fort Meade, MD.
Gary married the love of his life, Sharon Anne Isaminger on May 1, 1954 in Pendleton, OR. The couple welcomed the arrival of their three children, and Gary was most proud to be a Father and Grandpa, delighting in the adventures and accomplishments of his family. The Meyers have lived in the Tri-Cities for 54 years.
An entrepreneur at heart, Gary's career pursuits included Texaco distributorship, owner of Kennewick Disposal, real estate broker, and instructor at Columbia Basin College.
A man of many talents and interests, Gary was an avid golfer (5 holes in one); pilot; photographer; bird hunter; stage actor, singer and producer with Richland Players and Richland Light Opera; Water Follies VP; Kennewick Jaycee. He loved to cook and grill, savor a good book, walk an ocean beach, follow the stock markets, and dote on beloved furry friends.
Gary will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Predeceased by his parents, Gary is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon; daughter Susan Meyer Adams; daughter Karen Meyer Wood (Dave); son David Meyer (Cheryl); sister Linda London; grandchildren Andrew, Elizabeth, Timothy and Jaclyn; five great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
Honoring Gary's wishes, a graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Riverview Heights Cemetery, 1200 S. Olympia St., Kennewick.
