George Black Obituary

George Richard Black

March 1, 1934 - November 9, 2025

Pasco, Washington - G. Richard Black, known to family and friends as Dick, passed away peacefully at home in Pasco, Washington, on November 9, 2025, with his beloved wife Barb by his side. He was 91. Dick was born in Wenatchee, Washington, on March 1, 1934, to Earl and Irene Black. When he was a year old, the family moved to Moses Lake, where he grew up, attended school, and graduated from Moses Lake High School. It was there he met the love of his life, Barbara, and the two were married in 1955. This year, they celebrated 70 wonderful years together. Dick worked for 40 years as an Operating Engineer in highway construction, helping to build roads throughout the Pacific Northwest-a career he took great pride in. After retiring, Dick and Barb enjoyed traveling across the United States in their RV, spending winters at their favorite resort in El Centro, California. They cherished their time golfing, soaking up the sunshine, and sharing laughter with good friends. Above all, Dick loved his family. He treasured the many gatherings over the years and the joy of watching his family grow. Family was everything to him. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Irene Black; his brother, Jack; and his sister, Glenness. He is survived by his loving wife, Barb; his children Nancy Scherer (Harlan), Penney Mackenzie (Brian), Tracy Smart (John), and Marshall Black (Lisa); nine grandchildren - Jaime, Kyle (Anna), Jason (Tia), Erin (Tracey), Megan (Mitch), Kurt (Andrea), Nichole (Kyle), C.J. (Kalleigh), and Josh; 17 great-grandchildren - Kalee (Jacob), Carsen (Luke), Belle (Gavin), Patrick (Liz), Harper, Margot, Emrie, Hayden, Hattie, Bo, Grady, Maverick, Colton, Lily, Josiah, Zaiden, and Athena; and great-great-grandson Jace, with two more great-great-grandchildren on the way. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his quick wit, kind heart, and wonderful laugh. Rest in peace, my love, Dad, and G'pa. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Yesterday

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I know that all of you will miss him. I knew him thru my husband Lewis Hackney that worked with him and became a great friend to him and he had so much admiration for Dick. I know that he and Lew are rehashing the work and good times they had together up there.
