John David Matthews

John Matthews passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, May 4.

John was born the fifth child to Donald and Evelyn Matthews. He attended St. Paul's Elementary School and graduated from Eisenhower High School, (Yakima 1961).

John married Jan Baughman and had one son, Joseph David.

John lived in Kennewick for the past 30 years where he was a very successful businessman and entrepreneur. He owned and operated several businesses including 'The General Store' and 'The Truck Stop' in Finley and 'Price Less Cigarettes' in Richland. He enjoyed family activities, boating, fishing and socializing with friends. His son, Joseph and his grandchildren were his greatest source of pride and happiness. John was loved and appreciated by all of his family and friends for his quick wit, intelligence, sense of humor and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Evelyn, brother, Keith, and former wife Jan.

Surviving family includes his loving son, Joseph Matthews (wife, Laurie), grandchildren, Nathan and Morgan Matthews; and Kendall Mollett; sisters, Donna Berger (Ron), Seattle; Gail Reynolds (Mel), Arizona; and Charleen Donohue, Issaquah; nieces and nephews, Lyn Cheryl, Andria, Darla, Michael, David, Donald, Dawn, Beth, Jaime, Debbie, Tami and Tony.

Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Chapel, 520 S. Garfield, Kennewick, on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at 10:00 am. Viewing will be held Wednesday, May 10, 4-7 pm, with a Rosary at 6-7 pm at Hillcrest Memorial Center, 9353 W. Clearwater Ave., Kennewick. Interment will take place at 2:00 pm at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, 3001 Terrrace Heights Drive, Yakima, WA.
